NEW LONDON, Conn.-The Coast Guard men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision today at Connecticut College in non-conference action. With the loss, the Bears fall to 3-10 on the year while Connecticut College improves its record to 2-8.
The Bears picked up a win in both a singles match and a doubles match, highlighted by freshman Weston Fortna at number four singles and his victory in straight sets; 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles action, the tandem of freshman Robert Renfrow and senior Blake Maurer was victorious at number two doubles, winning by a margin of 8-5.
Despite a strong showing, both Renfrow and freshman Mark Guentert ultimately lost their respective matches at number two and three singles, both falling in three sets. Renfrow fell 6-0, 5-7, 0-6 while Guentert went down 6-3, 2-6, 5-7.
The duo of Guentert and Fortna played a close march at number one doubles before succumbing by a final count of 8-5.
The Bears return to action on Thursday, April 18th when they host Roger Williams at 4:00 pm in a non-conference match.
