Bears edged by Clark

WORCESTER, Mass.-The Coast Guard men's tennis team won three matches and forced three sets in two others before ultimately falling to Clark 6-3 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference tennis match.

Freshman Mark Guentert won at number three singles (6-0, 6-7, 6-2) and classmate Weston Fortna picked up a victory at number four doubles (6-1, 6-1) as the Bears took two of six singles sets. Senior Blake Maurer won the first set (6-2) in his match at number two singles before falling in the final two sets (6-7, 2-6). Sophomore Andrew Bryson also took a set a number five singles before succumbing in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 4-6).

On the doubles side, the freshman combination of Guentert and Fortna won at number two doubles by an 8-2 margin. In number one doubles freshman Robert Renfrow and Maurer kept things competitive but fell 5-8.

The Bears return to action on Wednesday, April 3rd as the host Springfield at 3:30 pm.
