Christie Burns enters her second year as Associate Athletic Director and Director of Finance for the Coast Guard Academy Athletics Department.
Burns is enlisted in the United States Navy, attending boot camp in July of 2002, and currently holds the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. Burns was selected in 2020 to support the 46th Presidential Inauguration, leading logistics and planning for all Inaugural Special Events such as the Departure Ceremony; the White House Activities; the Presidential Wreath Laying Ceremony; and the Lincoln Memorial Virtual Concert. For her work, Burns was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal.
Prior to CGA, Burns held multiple roles in the U.S. Navy's Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV N1). In 2021, she began her position as Executive Assistant to the Comptroller and Resource Manager; her responsibilities included acting as Human Resource and Budget Support while working in Process Improvement and Communication. During this time, Burns was selected for Chief Petty Officer and received a Navy Commendation Medal.
Most recently, Burns worked as a Financial Management Analyst within OPNAV N10, a role in which she oversaw operational and financial issues; managed budget development, quarterly and monthly forecasting, and financial modeling tools; and was the sole analyst of multiple OPNAVÂ aspects and projects.
Burns holds a Master's Degree in Organizational Effectiveness and Leadership, which she earned in 2021 from Charter Oak State College while minoring in Non-Profit Organizations. She also received her Bachelor's in Science with a minor in Engineering from Charter Oak in 2017. In 2009, Burns received an Associate's Degree in Technical Studies with a focus in Nuclear Engineering Technology from Excelsior College.
Burns currently lives in her hometown of Gales Ferry, CT, with her husband, Phil Jr., and their five children — Ian, Phill III, Roman, Sebastian, and Quentin.
