LCDR John Jaskot has served as an assistant coach at the Coast Guard Academy since the 2020-2021 season, focusing on the jumps. A graduate of the Academy Class of 2011, John was a four year member of the men’s indoor and outdoor track and field teams, serving as one of the team captains during his senior year. He was the NEWMAC champion in the high jump his junior year in 2010, and was All-NEWMAC his senior year in 2011.
Upon graduation, John’s first assignment was a Deck Watch Officer onboard the USCGC KUKUI, a 225-foot seagoing buoy tender homeported in Honolulu, Hawaii. John helped the ship inspect and maintain aids to navigation around the main Hawaiian Islands and Midway Atoll, while also conducting fisheries enforcement as a boarding officer throughout the Pacific. After this assignment, John spent three years at the Pacific Area / District 11 Command Center in Alameda, California, coordinating Coast Guard search and rescue missions off the coast of California and throughout the Pacific.
In 2016, John transferred to Sector Delaware Bay, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to serve in the Incident Management Division, supervising pollution response operations throughout portions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, and providing support to Coast Guard boat stations throughout the same area.
After completing his Masters Degree in Social-Organizational Psychology from Columbia University in 2020, John reported to the Academy to serve as one of the eight Company Officers in Chase Hall, supervising the cadets of Hotel Company. After three years in Chase Hall, he changed jobs on base and now serves as CGA’s Personnel Support Branch Chief, overseeing security, admin, logistics, and morale programs for the base.
During his time as an assistant coach, John coached athletes to seven Top 10 CGA performances in high jump across indoor and outdoor track for both men and women, and coached two athletes to compete at national-level competition, including at the NCAA DIII championships.
