Bill Randall

Bill Randall, a Class of 1982 graduate of the Academy is in his 11th season as the head coach of the men's team.

This is Coach Randall's third stint with CGA Rowing.  He was the stroke for the Coast Guard Varsity 8 which won the Dad Vail Regatta in 1981 and coached the Coast Guard freshman rowers from 1992-1994 and moved to the varsity lightweights from 1994-1996 while he was an rotating military instructor in Electrical Engineering. The Bears freshman lightweight eight took a silver medal at the 1994 National Championship Regatta. 

He was a member of the 1987 U.S. National team that competed in the Rowing World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark and was the Elite Quadruple Scull National Champion in 1986 and the Masters National Champion in the quadruple scull in 2003. He was inducted into the Coast Guard Academy Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005. 

Coach Randall retired as a Commander in the Coast Guard after 20 years focused on command, control, communications, computers, and information technology. After retiring he served for 13 years at the Coast Guard’s Telecommunication and Information Systems Command as the senior IT infrastructure engineer. Coach Randall has put this experience to work here by teaching a course on Cyber Ethics and as the Department of Athletics representative to the Academy Cyber Council.
