Tom Satran is in his fifth season as an assistant coach at the United States Coast Guard Academy.  Satran came to the academy in 2021 with over twenty years’ college coaching experience.

Prior to joining Coast Guard, Satran was the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Connecticut College from 2002 to 2018.  At Conn, from 2006-2011, Satran led the program to four NESCAC Tournament appearances in six years.  Satran also recruited and coached three All-NESCAC players, the program’s all-time leading scorer, the program’s all-time leading rebounder and six 1,000 point scorers.

Prior to leading the Connecticut College program, Satran was an assistant coach at New York University (2000-2002), Brown University (1999-2000) and Connecticut College (1996-1999).

Satran graduated from Connecticut College with a degree in English and Art History in 1994.  As an undergraduate, Satran served as captain of the men’s basketball team and graduated as the school’s single season record holder for three-point shots made in a season. 

A highly decorated student, Satran won the Brown/Brooks Award in honor of the outstanding graduating scholar-athlete, the Hanna Hafkesbrink Award in honor of the outstanding student of the humanities, the Baird Prize for critical writing and the Lyman Allyn Art Museum Award in honor of the outstanding senior Art History major.  He also earned a Master’s in Teaching English from Connecticut College in 1999.
