NEW LONDON, Conn. — 

United States Coast Guard Academy Athletics is proud to announce men's soccer freshman Ryan Gottschalk (Alpharetta, Ga.) and volleyball sophomore Corey Lemmer (San Francisco, Calif.) as the CoastGuardAthletics.com Cadet-Athletes of the Week, presented by First Command, for the week ending on September 20th.

Gottschalk was instrumental to men's soccer's 2-1 NEWMAC opener win over Clark University on Saturday. After the Cougars took an early lead during the 10th minute, Gottschalk got the secondary assist on the equalizer in the 38th. The freshman would later net the game-winner in the 85th, securing the first three points for his squad in conference play with his first career goal.

Lemmer helped Bears volleyball to a 3-0 week by averaging 15 kills per match on .250 hitting. She put down 20 kills at a .405 pace in last Tuesday's 3-1 win at Bridgewater State, the program's most kills in a match since 2019. On Saturday, she recorded 12 kills against Roger Williams University and 13 against Worcester State to help Coast Guard sweep the Hawks' tri-match.

Gottschalk and men's soccer (3-2-1) will take on non-conference foes Rhode Island College (2-2-2) this evening at 6:00 PM ET, and will continue their NEWMAC slate on Saturday with a 1:00 PM appointment at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1-3-2). Lemmer and volleyball (8-2) will also return to action tonight, opening conference play at Smith College (10-1) with a 7:00 PM first serve. They'll also visit #5 MIT (8-1) on Saturday for a tri-match with the Engineers and Kean University (3-6).
