NEW LONDON, Conn.--
The NEWMAC Conference today announced the postseason awards for Women's Lacrosse.
Highlighting the honorees for Coast Guard were two major award winners: senior
Abby McAllister (Pleasantville, NY) as Player of the Year and freshman attacker
Joely Schaumloffel (Remsenburg, NY) as Rookie of the Year. Along with the players, CGA's staff was honored as well, winning the Conference Coaching Staff of the Year for the first time in program history.
McAllister led the conference in points per game, goals, goals per game, free position percentage, and shots on goal per game. Abby owns nearly every offensive records for Coast Guard and will graduate as the most successful Women's Lacrosse athlete in program history.
Schaumloffel had an excellent rookie campaign, ranking top 10 in the NEWMAC in goals, goals per game, points, points per game, and shots on goal. Joely started off her career with five goals in the first half of her first career game and went on from there to have an incredible season to earn this award.
Head Coach
Sue Behme and the rest of the Coast Guard Coaching staff have been named the NEWMAC Coaching Staff of the Year after the greatest season in program history. The Bears set program bests with 14 wins, a second place regular season finish, and advancing to the conference championship for the first time ever.
Coast Guard netted five on the All-Conference Team. Attacker
Abby McAllister,
Ella Campbell (Foxborough, MA), and
Rowan Walsh (Hampstead, MD) were each named to the First Team with
Joely Schaumloffel and
Lauren Henry (Monroe, CT) on the Second Team.
Defenders
Ella Campbell,
Rowan Walsh, and
Lauren Henry contributed to the top scoring defense in the league. The Bears defense also led the NEWMAC in caused turnovers, paced by Henry who was 3rd in the league.Â
