HARTFORD, Conn. —
The United States Coast Guard Academy women's track & field team traveled to Hartford on Saturday, April 18th, for Trinity College's Trinity Invitational. After a day of solid performances, the Bears placed eighth overall with 44 points in a field of 13 teams.
Alaina Stonebraker (Salt Lake City, Utah) was fourth in the 100 meters and 200 meters, running respective times of 12.61 seconds and 25.50 seconds. Coast Guard had three top five finishers in the women's 400 meters dash with Ella Besant (Morehead, Ky.) placing third at 59.15 seconds, Millie Wymbs (Salisbury, N.C.) in fourth at 59.39, and Thuy Nguyen (Camden, Ga.) taking fifth at 59.46.
Laurel Davis (Jenks, Okla.) set a personal best time in the 400 hurdles of 1:09.59, a new #8 all-time performance in USCGA history. Kevyn Fish (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was fifth overall in the 1500 meters with a season-best time 4:51.84. Also running over the weekend was Claire Semerod (Centennial, Colo.) who shipped up to Boston on Friday, April 17th, for the Sean Collier Invite Distance Night at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. posting a 4:42.29 in the 1500 meters
In throws, Mercedes Bowman (Cincinnati, Ohio) was seventh in the hammer with a new personal best throw of 40.58 meters (133' 1"). Jasmine Mendez (Cromwell, Conn.) placed 9th in javelin with a top performance of 26.63m (87' 4"). Jumps saw Kaylee Wright (Plainwell, Mich.) finish fifth overall in the long jump at 5.01 meter (16' 5.25"). Wright was also sixth in triple jump with a best attempt of 10.13 meters (33' 3"). Leading the triple jump for the Bears was Hailey Corritore (Erie, Pa.) in fourth, jumping 10.85 meters (35' 7.25"). EmmaClaire Staver (San Antonio, Tex.) set a personal record long jump of 10.00 meters (32' 9.75"), a new USCGA #8.
Bears women's track & field will be back it it this upcoming weekend as they get to stay home for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships.
