WALTHAM, Mass. –
Saturday afternoon at Waltham High School, Coast Guard swept a non-conference doubleheader vs Brandeis by scores of 6-0 and 8-4. For Brandeis, the losses drop them to 7-6 on the season. The Judges will next travel to Case Western for a four game series next weekend to start their conference play.
In game one, Coast Guard was led by the dominant pitching of senior tri-captain
Raymond Priddy(Chico, CA). Priddy earned the win with six strong innings of scoreless work, allowing just five hits with no walks while striking out five. Finishing off the shutout for the Bears was fellow senior
Tyler Michalek(Haslet, TX) with an inning of scoreless ball.
At the plate, the Bears got the only run they would need just two batters into the game when
Luke Percifield(Pinellas Park, FL) singled in
Carson Cho(Haymarket, VA). They added three more runs on a
Tate Scherer(Mystic, CT) single to score
Drew Basque(Kealakekua, HI) in the second and Basque single to score
Max Van Auken(Franklinville, NJ) and
Nate Stafford(Jupiter, FL) in the third.
The dagger for the Bears was delivered in the 6th inning by
Carson Cho, with a solo bomb before CGA tacked on a 6th insurance run in the top of the 7th.
In game two, Coast Guard again got their scoring started right away. With Cho, Percifield, and Stafford loaded on the bases,
Ayden Gurevich(Lake Worth Beach, FL) walked to score Cho before Percifield scored on a
Kael Godshalk(Bangor, PA) fielder's choice. Godshalk scored two more men in the third inning on a double to drive in Gurevich and Stafford.
On the mound to start for CGA was sophomore southpaw
John DiMarsico(Severna Park, MD) who earned the win with 4.1 IP, four K's, and just one run.
With the Bears up just one in the top of the 7th, they got some much needed insurance on RBI bases loaded walks by
Isaac Hobbs(Arlington, VA) and
Peter Karloutsos(Ridgefield, CT) before
Tate Scherer scored
Kael Godshalk on a sac fly to put the Bears up four.
Earning the save for Coast Guard was
Jackson Dorsey(Newark, DE) who stopped the bleeding in the 6th before shutting the door in the 7th to secure the win.
Coast Guard improves to 5-6 with the twin bill sweep. They will open up NEWMAC play on Tuesday with a 3:30 PM game at Clark University.
