Bears fall in tight dual at King’s Point

KING'S POINT, N.Y. –

In their annual head-to-head battle vs rival Merchant Marine, Coast Guard fell to the Mariners on the road by a score of 174-126. This marks the third year in a row that the home team won the matchup after CGA won 171-129 last year and USMMA won 161-139 two years ago.

Merchant Marine stays undefeated with the win at 9-0. They will compete next again at home vs Baruch on Tuesday January 20th at 6:00 PM. 

The Bears had two men win events. Blaise Minckler(Hilton Head Island, SC) took the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.94 while Noah Reice(Wilmington, DE) dominated three different events: 100 yard butterfly(50.26), 100 yard freestyle(45.93), and 200 yard butterfly(1:53.88). Reice had company atop the leaderboard in the 100 yard butterfly with teammate Charles Gaines(Macon, GA) coming in second place with a time of 51.86. 

Along with their winning races, Minckler and Reice were both a part of the second place 200 yard medley relay team. 

Also strong for Coast Guard was Zach McGowen(Springfield, VA) who placed second in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.81, 3rd in the 100 yard backstroke at 53.01, 4th in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.18, and was part of the second place 400 yard freestyle relay team.

Coast Guard sits at 6-4 on the season after the loss today. They will travel to Trinity College(CT) on Saturday January 24th at noon.
