BABSON PARK, Mass.--
With under 10 minutes remainibg, Coast Guard appeared to be in the drivers seat. After 80 minutes of stellar defensive soccer on both sides it was the Bears who broke through first to break through in a game that seemed destined for a 0-0 tie.
After earning a corner, sophomore Bella Brittain(Woodbridge, VA) sent a perfect ball on the screws into the crowd of Bears. Mia Carabajal-Hartog(Las Cruces, NM) was there in the right spot to reap the benefits of Brittain's perfect pass, burying the ball into the back of the net for her second career goal.
Carabajal-Hartog, or "MCH" as she is often called, follows in the footsteps of three name athlete greats like Pete Crow Armstrong(PCA) and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie(DRC).
The Bears goal, while electrifying in the moment, seemed to wake something up inside of the Beavers. One minute after MCH's score, Babson sent a screaming shot over goal and on their next opportunity Janiya Ocampo(Pawtucket, RI) found Josie Lee(Duxbury, MA) for the game tying score.
The Babson offense wasted no time after that score, just over two minutes later scoring again to take the lead. It was much like CGA's goal with a Lee corner finding Izzy Lee(Phoenix, AZ) to score the game winning goal.
With under two mintes remaining it was too late for Coast Guard who were sent home with a gut wrenching loss despite playing great as a team all game against a very good opponent.
Babson College improves to 3-0-4 with the win. They will go on the road Sunday to face Johnson & Wales at 1:00 PM.
Coast Guard falls to 1-6-2, 0-2 NEWMAC with the loss. They will start October with a home game vs Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday October 1st at 6:00 PM.
