DiGiorgio Headlines Bears on NEWA Yearly Awards as Scholar-Athlete of the Year

NEW LONDON, Conn.  -  The New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) has released their yearly awards, with junior heavyweight Carl DiGiorgio (Doylestown, Pa.) leading the Coast Guard Academy wrestling team as the 2024-25 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

DiGiorgio went 25-3 during his third-year campaign en route to a runner-up placement at the 2025 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. His efforts also garnered him All-NEWA First Team recognition alongside senior teammate Chase Randall (Spokane, Wash.), who posted a perfect 26-0 record with six pins during his successful quest to repeat as national champion at 133 pounds.

Joining them on the All-NEWA lists are junior Jacob Woodburn (Greensboro, N.C.) and sophomore Gabriel Monroe (Kirkwood, N.Y.). The duo made their debuts on the national stage this past season and bowed out in the consolation bracket. Woodburn went 21-8 at 157, while Monroe was 17-9 at 184.

Coast Guard had six more wrestlers appointed as All-NEWA Honorable Mentions: senior Kenny Marra (Salem, Ohio), juniors Nathan Fitt (Branchville, N.J.) and Nikko Beato (San Diego, Calif.), sophomores Landon Kearns (East Brunswick, N.J.) and Caden Stout (St. Clairesville, Ohio), and freshman Dom Moyer (Milford, Pa.). Moyer was also named to the All-Rookie Team next to Brendan Raley (Annandale, Va.).
