NORTON, Mass. --
The Coast Guard Bears fell on the road to league opponent Wheaton College by a score of 5-4. For Wheaton, it is the Lyons third win in a row to improve to 14-9(6-1 NEWMAC). The Lyons return to action on Thursday, April 10 when they travel to Springfield, MA to take on Western New England University at 4:00 PM.
The game was tied 1-1 early on, the Lyons striking first with a run in the bottom of the 1st inning and Coast Guard answering with a Rick Barkley(Seattle, WA) solo bomb to right center.
Wheaton scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to break the 1-1 tie, but Coast Guard got two back in the sixth with another Barkley solo shot followed by a Luke Percifield(Pinellas Park, FL) RBI single. Barkley and Percifield are no strangers to driving in clutch runs for the Bears as the team leaders in RBI with 21 and 20 respectively.Â
CGA would chip away with another run in the ninth to make it a one run game when Connor Cilento(Point Pleasant, NJ) scored on an error but Wheaton was able to strand the bases loaded and tying run on third to close out the win.
Barkley added another hit on top of his two bombs for a 3-5 effort in the afternoon. Sophomore righty Jackson Dorsey(Newark, DE.) was excellent in relief, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk to go with three strikeouts in three innings of work. After Dorsey was junior flamethrower Tyler Michalek(Haslet, TX) who threw a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one.
The loss drops Coast Guard to 13-9(3-2 NEWMAC). The Bears will next travel to Hartford, CT to face the University of Hartford on Thursday April 10th, 6:05 PM at Dunkin Park.
