NEW LONDON, Conn. –
In the second of two games vs crosstown rival Mitchell College, Coast Guard completed the season sweep with a 10-7 win over the Mariners. For Mitchell, the loss drops them to 20-15 on the season. They will close out their regular season on the road at Elms College this Sunday April 27th with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM.
Mitchell jumped ahead right away, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Coast Guard would not allow that lead to stick, jumping on the board immediately in the bottom half of the frame. After
Carson Cho(Haymarket, VA) led off with a double,
Nathan Stafford(Jupiter, FL) singled him in to cut the Bears deficit to one. Four batters later,
Connor Cilento(Point Pleasant, NJ) blew the game open. With the bases loaded, Cilento sent a ball soaring over the left field fence for his third career homer and first career grand slam to take a 5-2 lead.
In the bottom of the second, CGA started the same way as the first.
Max Van Auken(Franklinville, NJ) led off with a double and Carso Cho singled him in one batter later. That 6-2 lead would hold until the 5th inning when Mitchell scored three times to cut the Bear lead to just one. In the bottom of the inning, Coast Guard got some breathing room back when
Kael Godshalk(Bangor, PA) singled in
Wyatt Duthu(Madison, AL).
After Mitchell got another run back in the 6th, it was again Godshalk scoring Duthu, this time with a gap double in the 7th after
Drew Basque(Kealakekua, HI) hit a sacrifice fly to score
Rick Barkley(Bellevue, WA). In the 8th, Coast Guard added on one more run to stretch their lead to four. In the 9th,
Jackson Dorsey(Newark, DE) slammed the door to clinch the 10-7 victory.
Earning the win on the mound in the bullpen day for Coast Guard was
Jack Gausselin(Long Beach, IN). After a rocky first inning, Gausselin beared down to throw a scoreless 2nd. After Gausselin was
Jack Spinnato(Oldsmar, FL) who threw two hitless innings.
Tyler Michalek(Haslet, TX) threw 1.2 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two. After Michalek,
Aidan Andersen(Waukesha, WI) bridged the game to Dorsey with two innings of hitless, walkless ball in the 7th and 8th.
The Coast Guard win improves them to 19-12 on the year. They will travel to Babson College this Saturday April 26th at 12:00 PM for a doubleheader with big time NEWMAC standings implications.
