Bears close out regular season with dominating victory over Clark

NEW LONDON, Conn. –

After celebrating senior day on Saturday, Coast Guard stayed hot with a 17-1 victory over Clark tonight. For the Bears, it was the seniors doing the damage. On offense, all five offensive seniors scored three or more points. Laine Weber(Granite Bay, CA) and Caitlyn Coates(Hanover, PA) each scored four goals with Katharine Rott(Severna Park, MD), Kira Howard(Wilton, CT) and Fiona McCartin(Centreville, MD) each scoring three points. Those five combined for 14 of the team's 17 goals. On the other side of the ball, the two senior defenders did their part as well with Riley Mullen(Williamsburg, VA) recording two caused turnovers and Maici Mintchwarner(Cream Ridge, NJ) making two saves.

For Clark, the loss drops them to 6-11(3-7 NEWMAC). The Cougars will have to await the results of other league action to find out if they will make the NEWMAC playoffs which start this weekend.

Coast Guard jumped out early and often in the game, scoring the first seven goals in the game. After the Cougars scored one goal, the Bears rattled off 10 unanswered to reach the final of 17-1. The two non-seniors to score were Abby McCallister(Pleasantville, NY) who scored twice and Rileigh Leary(Holden, MA) who added one. McCallister added an assist as well with fellow junior Isabella Judge(Buffalo, NY) also adding an assist.

On the ground, Coast Guard had 18 ground balls to just seven for Clark. Leading the way was Caitlyn Coates with four and Rowan Walsh(Hampstead, MD) with three. Walsh also added two caused turnovers, tied with Katharine Rott for second on the team behind Lauren Henry(Monroe, CT) who led with four.

With the lead in hand, senior goalie Maici Mintchwarner gave way to freshman keeper Kailee Heron(West Islip, NY) for the fourth quarter. Heron made the most of her 15 minutes, making three saves and allowing no goals.

Coast Guard finishes their regular season with a record of 9-5(7-3 NEWMAC). They will host a quartfinal game on Saturday April 26th at 12:00 PM against an opponent to be determined.
