NEW LONDON, Conn. –
In a tight non-conference affair, Coast Guard was able to fend off the efforts of Wentworth, defeating the Leopards 13-11. Despite the close score, Coast Guard led for nearly three full quarters, never allowing Wentworth to take back hold. With the loss, Wentworth falls to 3-2 on the season. The Leopards will next travel to Florida for spring break where they will face Emmanuel College on Sunday, March 2nd at 2:00 PM.
Wentworth scored the first two goals of the evening but with 3:31 remaining in the first quarter, the Bears struck on a
Ryder Bonser(Spring Branch, TX) unassisted goal that would be the first of three unanswered for CGA. With the freshman scoring the first, a senior scored second when
Ryan Hunter(Bethesda, MD) tied the score at two on an unassisted goal of his own. With 12:53 remaining in the second,
Ezekiel Christian(Stonington, CT) gave the Bears a 3-2 lead, a lead which they would not relinquish.
In the second, the Bears caught fire with a deja vu streak on offense. In what was the highlight of the night for the Bears,
Ezekiel Christian scored two goals assisted by
Eric Key(Clarksville, MD) in a span of under 30 seconds. Christian would lead the Bears in goals on the day with four while Key led in assists with two, tied with
Max Silver(Jupiter, FL) who also had a pair.
On three different occasions, Wentworth was able to cut the CGA lead to one, the final time being with 2:32 remaining in the third. Coast Guard however, quickly scored two unassisted with goals from Christian and Key to give some breathing room before being able to run out the clock at the end of the game.

Mason Tucker(Alpharetta, GA) was outstanding on the face-off. Winning 20 of his 26 to give the Bears possession. Tucker also led with 15 ground balls. Second on the squad in ground balls was midfielder
Ben Lewis(Portland, OR) with three. On defense,
Jamison Wildt(Arnold, MD) paced the Bears with two caused turnovers and steady in goal for Coast Guard was
Brett Tobasky(Brookline, MA). The sophomore took a beating in goal with a gutsy effort in which he made 17 saves for a 60% save percentage.
Coast Guard, now 2-1 on the season, will be home again on Saturday March 1st at 1:00 PM vs Norwich.
