In the third place game at the 11th annual SpringHill Suites Guilford Holiday Classic, Coast Guard fell 83-71 to the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds. Skidmore finds themselves back over .500 at 5-4 with the victory. They will next get back on the court on January 9th at 7:30 PM on the road at Hobart College.
The Bears took an early 9-6 lead off a hot start from beyond the arc with both Christian Rodgers(Linwood, NJ) and Ashton Kendall(Baltimore, MD) draining threes. Aidan Roy(Mamaroneck, NY) answered with a three of his own for Skidmore to tie the game before the Thoroughbreds took hold of the lead 11-9 on their next possession.Â
For the remainder of the half, the Bears and Thoroughbreds played even ball. Skidmore never relinquished the lead but never led by more than seven points with the Bears staying within reach of the lead at all times, even tying the score at 21-21. At the break, CGA trailed by just four at 32-28 with Skidmore holding the slight advantage in field goal percentage(43.3 - 35.7) and three point percentage(30.0 - 26.7).
In the second half, Skidmore came out hot and took a commanding lead over CGA that would hold to a final score of 83-71. The Bears fought back to within striking distance on numerous occasions but were unable to slow down the Thoroughbred offense that shot nearly 60%(58.62) from the field and 40% from three. Coast Guard shot 41.38% from the field and out shot Skidmore from beyond the arc at 42.86%. They also had the slight edge in rebounds with 35 to their 34.Â
Jordan Frazer(Columbia, SC) led the Bears offense in scoring with 19 points, shooting 3-4 from three. Luke Farrell(Ortley, NJ) and Trevor Parks(Clearwater, FL) were the others in double figures with 18 and 13 respectively. Farrell and Parks were the leaders on the boards as well, Farrell with 10 and Parks with eight. Elijah Parent(Bristol, CT) was a menace on defense, with three steals and a block while adding seven points.
The Bears(4-6) will come back up north after the new year to continue the grueling NEWMAC schedule on January 6th, with a 5:30 PM home date with Wheaton College.
