NEW LONDON, Conn. –
In their opener in conference play, Coast Guard fell 96-71 at the hands of Emerson College. Emerson, with the win, has bounced back to .500 at 3-3(1-0 NEWMAC). The Lions will next host Wheaton College on Saturday December 6th at 1:00 PM.
Despite Coast Guard trailing for the entirety of the game, the Bears came away with some momentum to bring into both their next game Saturday, and round two vs Emerson on January 24th. CGA went into the half trailing by 30, but had an excellent second half, outscoring the Lions 44-39.
In that second half, CGA shot 56% from beyond the arc. They also got some stellar play off the bench from underclassmen
Will Briggs(Denton, TX) and
Cormac Love(Blue Point, NY). Briggs went a perfect 2-2 from three and 2-2 from the free throw line for eight points. Love took just one shot, but made it count by draining a three-pointer.
The Bears were led in scoring by
Luke Farrell(Ortley Beach, NJ) who had 21 points. Fellow seniors
Trevor Parks(Clearwater, FL) and
Elijah Parent(Bristol, CT) were the others in double figures with 12 and 11 respectively, Parks reaching his 12 by going 4-9 from beyond the arc. The leader in both assists(5) and rebounds(6) was sophomore guard
Colin Huang(Irvine, CA).
