The U.S. Coast Guard Academy women's basketball team started their 2025-26 season in a strong manner on Saturday, picking up a blowout 93-68 win at Gordon College. Three players reached double-digit points for the Bears, with one recording a double-double.
Coast Guard opens their campaign at 1-0, while Gordon starts at 0-1. The Fighting Scots will look for their first win of the season on Tuesday, November 11th, when they host Norwich University (1-0).
Dorothy Stotts (Edina, Minn.) had 22 points and
Olivia Wright (Midlothian, Va.) had 20 to lead the Bears in scoring. Wright recorded her first career double-double by grabbing ten boards, pulling down five on both ends. Coast Guard was also boosted by a 17-point debut from freshman
Georgia Pauli (Tiburon, Calif.), who shot 7-for-11 from the field and 3-for-5 from three off the bench.
It was an efficient night for Coast Guard, who shot over 40% in every quarter except for the first. The Bears finished the night going 37-for-83 (44.6%) from the field, while Gordon went 22-for-60 (36.7%). Both teams hit 33.3% of their three-point attempts, but the big difference there was quantity as Coast Guard went 11-for-33 while the Fighting Scots were 7-for-21.
The Bears trademark ball-movement oriented offense was on full display to the tune of 25 assists for the team.
Taylor Lynch (Madison, Ind.) was the biggest orchestrator of that number with a career-high 11 assists while recording three steals on the other end for a solid two-way effort.
A 50-39 rebounding lead for Coast Guard was aided by a 17-7 lead on the offensive glass. Supplementing Wright's 10 boards were a pair of sevens by
Elliot Geer (Grove, Okla.) and
Farrah Peterein (Oxnard, Calif.), with the 5-6 Geer pulling down four on the offensive end to go with her three steals.
The Bears took advantage of Gordon's 26 turnovers, cashing them in for 29 points. Coast Guard also received major support from the bench, which scored 33 points to dwarf the five from the Fighting Scots' reserves.
Bears women's basketball will return to the court on Friday, November 14th, when they travel to Hartford University (0-1). It will be the first meeting in history between the Hawks and the Bears.
