Bronxville, N.Y. —
The Coast Guard women's basketball team put together its most dominant offensive performance of the young season, routing Sarah Lawrence 101–46 on Saturday afternoon. The Bears(2-1) shot 50% from the field, forced 28 turnovers, and outscored the Gryphons 43-0 in points off turnovers in a game they controlled from the opening tip to the final buzzer.
The Bears jumped ahead early behind a 21–17 first quarter and broke the game open with a dominant 26–9 second-quarter run, taking a 47–26 lead into halftime. Holding that comfortable lead at half, CGA never took their foot off the gas and rode their red hot shooting to a 101-46 road victory to bounce back from a loss at the University of Hartford the night prior.
The Bears finished with 50 bench points, showcasing a balanced attack across their small, but deep roster with all 10 women scoring multiple points. Coast Guard knocked down 10 three-pointers and forced Sarah Lawrence into difficult shots all evening, holding the Gryphons to 2-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc.
Coast Guard was led by a breakout performance by sophomore Ruby Miller(Bethlehem, PA) who scored a new career high 17 points, knocking down a trio of three pointers and shooting 50% from the field. Miller also led the Bears in rebounds with 10 to secure her first career double-double.
Behind Miller in scoring were Olivia Wright(Midlothian, VA) and Farrah Peterein(Oxnard, CA) with 14 and 10 points respectively while an impressive six different women each had four rebounds to tie for second on the team.
Coast Guard will continue their lengthy road trip to start the season in New York on Tuesday at 6:00 PM vs John Jay.
