Pair of Miller goals leads Bears past Emerson on the road

BOSTON, Mass. –

After two electric matchups last season(0-1 regular season loss and 3-2 OT playoff win), Coast Guard and Emerson picked up right where they left off with a close, physical, gutsy battle in Boston in which the Bears jumped ahead early and held off the Lions the rest of the afternoon for a 2-0 win.

For Emerson College, the loss drops them to 3-4-5(0-2-1 NEWMAC). They will look to bounce back next Saturday October 18th on the road vs Clark University at 2 PM.

One week ago, it was Cole Miller(Annapolis, MD) who played hero for Coast Guard on the road with an 89th minute goal to beat WPI. Today was deja vu for Miller, who again had the game-winning score but this time he wasted no time, scoring the only goal the Bears would need just 1:56 into the action.

Nine minutes later, Miller added another goal to supply the only two goals of the afternoon en route to a 2-0 CGA win. He would end the game with three of the Bears four shots.

On defense, the Bears were exceptional. Jack Lopez(Ponte Vedra Beach, FL), Aidan Miles(Tampa, FL), Josiah Rodriguez(Beavercreek, OH), and Naveen Jayaram(Tampa, FL) each played the full 90 and held the Emerson offense to just seven shots.

Three of those seven Emerson shots were on goal but Bears keeper Samuel Linkous(Gulf Breeze, FL) was up for the task, saving all three to earn his 5th win and 2nd shutout of the year. Two of the saves by Linkous were in crunch time, with under 15 minutes remaining in the game.

The win keeps the Bears hot, with the squad now having not lost in a full month(5-0-2). Up next they will have their shortest road trip of the season on Tuesday October 14th at cross-street rival Connecticut College at 4:00 PM.
