Eastern Connecticut State Shuts Out Women's Soccer, 3-0

WILLIMANTIC , Conn. - Coast Guard women's soccer fell to 0-5 in their 2024 campaign after being shut out at Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon. It was the Bears' third match this season where they were unable to score a goal.

The hosting Warriors improved to 2-3, picking up a much needed win after tasting defeat in their previous two matches. ECSU's next match on Wednesday, Sept. 18th will take them to Western Mass. to take on Westfield State, who hold a 1-3-2 record.

The Warriors' scored their first goal of the match late into the first half by way of a penalty kick in the 44th minute. Coast Guard took one shot in the first 45 minutes of play had a pair of chances via corner kick. ECSU attempted six shots and took six corners.

It took the Warriors less time to extend their lead in the second half they went up 2-0 in the 48th minute. The hosts added some more insurance in the 66th minute, taking a 3-0 lead that they would hold until the final buzzer.

The Bears found more chances in the second half, taking five shots and three corners, finishing the game with three of their six total shots being on goal. On the other end, four of ECSU's nine shots during the match were on-target. Both teams were whistled for eight fouls each.

Women's soccer will host Wentworth Insitute of Technology in their next match, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 18th with a 6:00 PM kick-off. The Leopards are 3-2-1 this season and defeated Salem State, 2-1, fortheir latest result.
