Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bears move to 2-0 in stellar defensive performance

BEVERLEY, Mass. -- In their second shutout in as many days, Coast Guard defeated the Endicott Gulls 2-0 on the road. The victory today broke a streak of two consecutive ties with Endicott in 2022 and 2023. The Gulls(0-1-1) will next face Keene State at home on September 7th at 1:00 PM.

Unlike yesterday when Aki Freeman gave CGA the only goal they would need in the first five minutes of the game, the game would go scoreless through the entire first half. In the second half the Bears finally broke through. In the 58th minute junior Alexander Thissell(Ashburn, VA) scored off a corner to grab the lead. Nearly 20 minutes later, senior Micah Messner(Mableton, GA) scored on a penalty kick to seal the deal for CGA.

The story of the game for the second night in a row was the Bears lockdown defense. Senior defender Jude Sargent(West Hartford, CT) was dominant in leading the defense to their second straight shutout. After not seeing any shots on goal yesterday, Junior goalkeeper John Putnam(Halfmoon, NY) saved all five shots on goal he saw today. The Bears meanwhile, made the most of their shots. They were out shot by the Gulls 14-9 and scored on their only two shots on goal.

Coast Guard will attempt to keep the strong play going at Mitchell College Thursday September 5th at 4:00 PM.
