NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard did not allow Emerson to score in either game of the doubleheader, blanking the Lions 4-0 in game 1 and 5-0 in game 2. With the loss, Emerson concludes their season with a record of 6-25 (2-13 NEWMAC).
Prior to game 1, Coast Guard celebrated their three seniors:
John Carroll,
Charles Red, and
John Tacchini. In game 1, each of the three seniors got a hit with Carroll scoring two of the Bears four runs.
Parker Madden and
Kael Godshalk each got two hits to lead the Bears.
Luke Percifield added two RBI.
The story of game one was
Vito Giordano. The freshman from Scarsdale, NY earned his third victory of the season with eight innings of masterful pitching. He allowed just three hits and struck out 13 in his performance. In the 9th, RJ Priddy shut the door with a hitless inning of relief to secure the shoutout.
Game two followed the same formula as game one. The Bears struck early on offense and the pitching was dominant.
Wyatt Duthu had three hits to lead the Bears.
Carson Cho added two hits and two walks while playing stellar defense in right field battling a tough wind.
For the second time on the same day, a Coast Guard pitcher was untouchable.
Harrison Milbert threw eight innings of two hit ball, striking out six. The victory improves Milbert to 6-0 on the season. In the 9th,
Ryan Karman shut down the Lions to secure the team's second shutout of the day.
With the two victories, Coast Guard finishes the regular season at 24-9 (13-3 NEWMAC). The 24 victories ties a single season program record for the Bears and the 13-3 NEWMAC record is the best in program history. Coast Guard tied with Salve Regina for the best record in the conference but after the tiebreaking procedures, the Bears will be the #2 seed in the NEWMAC tournament. On Friday at 3:30 PM, CGA will host the winner of #6 MIT and #3 Babson.
