WELLESLEY, Mass. - In a defensive battle, the Bears fell 7-3 to Babson in the NEWMAC tournament semifinals. Coast Guard's only lead was at 1-0 on an
Addy Bass goal assisted by
Abby McAllister in the 1st quarter.
After the Bass goal in the 1st, the Bears gave up three unanswered goals but they kept fighting back. Early in the 2nd,
Mia Becker scored an unassisted goal to cut the Beaver lead to 3-2. After allowing another Babson goal the Bears ended the half with momentum on their side when
Kira Howard found an open
Addy Bass who scored to cut the lead to just one yet again. Bass finishes her historic career with 106 goals, she is one of only two women in CGA history to have over 100.
In the 2nd half, the Babson defense was punishing. They held CGA scoreless in the entire half to hold on to victory.
Both defenses were stellar in tonight's match. As a team Babson caused 23 turnovers with Coast Guard just behind with 18. Seniors
Mia Becker and
Caitlin Kelly led the way for the Bears with three caused turnovers each. Becker also led the Bears in ground balls with four. She graduates as the all time CGA leader in caused turnovers, ground balls, and draw controls.
In goal,
Maici Mintchwarner made 11 saves in a gutsy effort for the Bears.
