Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. - Softball hosted conference newcomers, Salve Regina, in a Friday DH, downing the Seahawks in both games.
Game one, the Bears walked it off to get the 8-7 victory.Â
In the top of the first, the Seahawks put up the first runs of the game with three to open up.Â
Coast Guard answered in the home half to take the lead 4-3. With two on,
Lillia Farlow doubled to bring in the first run. Next at-bat,
Julia Breidenthal hit a single of her own to cut the lead to one. Two batters later,
Veronica Krystofik hit a sacrifice fly, combined with an error, that brought in two and gave CGA the 4-3 lead.Â
In the third inning, Coast Guard added onto its lead off a double by
Bridget Bartz that scored Farlow.Â
Salve Regina got one back in the top of the fourth and tied the game at five in the top of the fifth.Â
Bottom of the sixth, two runners on,
Christine Carey hit a trouble ball into left field, scoring two and regaining the lead, 7-5.Â
Into the next inning, Salve Regina scored two, tying the game at seven.Â
Home half of the seventh, Breidenthal walked it off with a double to score
Isabelle Shroyer, ending the game at 8-7.
Breidenthal went 3-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Shroyer was 3-3 at the plate and recorded three strikeouts from the circle.
Dana Walker also had three strikeouts for the Bears.
Game two,Â
Coast Guard put up the first runs early on, getting two in the bottom of the first. Shroyer hit a sac fly out to left that brought home
Abriana Schmutz, followed by a ground out by Breidenthal to bring in Carey.
The Seahawks put up a run of their own in the top of the second to cut the lead in half.Â
Another run didn't cross the plate until the bottom of the fifth as CGA added three. Shroyer hit an RBI double, Breidenthal had an RBI single and later scored after and error by Salve's third baseman, making the score 5-1 heading into the sixth.
Salve Regina added one in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to three. Neither team scored again, CGA coming out with the 5-2 victory.
Both Shroyer and Breidenthal went 1-3 with two RBIs. Walker recorded three strikeouts and got the win.
Coast Guard will next play at WPI on April 27th at 12 PM and 3 PM.Â
