NEW LONDON, Conn. - Baseball hosted Westfield State, completing the comeback win with seven unanswered runs, taking down the Owls with a final score of 7-3.
The Owls opened up the game with a run in the top of the first, adding two more in the third.
Coast Guard put up its first run in the home half of the third, as
Nathan Stafford hit a sac fly to bring in
Wyatt Duthu. CGA held WSU to just their three runs into the bottom of the fifth, the Bears took the lead.Â
With the bases loaded,
John Tacchini doubled to right-center, bringing in all three runners and putting Coast Guard up, 4-3.Â
The Bears added another in the next inning,
Carson Cho singling to bring in
Jack Steel.Â
Into the bottom of the eight, Stafford launched one over the right field fence for a two-run homer, extending Coast Guard's lead to four. CGA shut down WSU in the top of the ninth with a three-up three-down inning, getting the 7-3 victory.
Stafford went 2-2 at the plate with three RBIs and a homer. Tacchini was 3-3, also with three RBIs.
Sean Harmon got the win for CGA and recorded four strikeouts.
Charles Red recorded his first career save as a Bear.
The Bears are now 11-5 on the season and will host Salve Regina on April 6th in a DH starting at 12 PM.
