LONDON, N.H. –
With a 79-50 victory at Colby-Sawyer, Coast Guard stayed hot, moving to 7-1 on the season. The win leaves the Bears on a now six game winning streak dating back to November 15th. With the loss, the Colby-Sawyer Chargers fall to 6-3 on the season. After a two week break, they will next travel to Keene State to face the Owls on Monday December 30th at 2:00 PM.
After trailing 3-0 and 5-4 early in the 1st quarter, Coast Guard took control and never looked back. After taking a 7-5 lead on a
Dorothy Stotts(Edina, MN) three pointer, CGA would hold that lead for the rest of the day.
With an 11 point lead at the half, the Bears appeared on the verge of pulling away in the second half, but Colby-Sawyer came out on fire in the 3rd. On two occasions, the Chargers cut the CGA lead to as few as two points(33-31 and 35-33). Coast Guard, however, was able to fend off the Chargers second half push by out rebounding Colby-Sawyer on both ends of the floor and out scoring them on offense with three players: Stotts,
Kelly Hagerty(Emerald City, NC), and
Olivia Wright(Midlothian, VA) scoring the final 16 points in the quarter for the Bears.
In the 4th quarter, Coast Guard took off on offense. As a team in the quarter, they shot an outrageous 11/14(78.6%) from the field. Dottie Stotts had two three pointers in the 4th with freshman standouts
Olivia Wright and
Elliot Geer(Grove, OK) each sinking one. The offensive explosion for the Bears ultimately led to the 29 point final score victory margin.
Coast Guard was led in scoring in the afternoon by
Dorothy Stotts, who scored 21 points, the 5th time this season she has scored 20+. Also in double figures were senior forwards
Kelly Hagerty and
Glory Blethen(Boothbay, ME) with 12 and 18 respectively. Blethen and Stotts tied for the team lead in assists with six and
Taylor Lynch(Madison, IN) was just behind them with five.
On defense, fourth class standout
Ruby Miller(Bethlehem, PA) set a new career high with three steals, leading the way for CGA in a 10 steal game for the team. On the boards it was veteran
Julia Mann(Central Square, NY) leading the Bears with nine. Mann is the current team leader in rebounds this season and sits at 12th all-time in Coast Guard history.
The Bears will look to stay red hot on Tuesday night, December 10th with a 7:00 home game vs crosstown rival Mitchell College.
