Bears get big early season win vs Conn College

NEW LONDON, Conn. –

In a cross-town(or cross-street) rivalry game, the Coast Guard Bears came out victorious 59-54 vs the Conn College Camels.

For the Camels, the loss drops them to 1-2. They will next host Hartford on Saturday November 23rd at 2:30 PM.

Going into the night, Coast Guard had not beaten their Mohegan Avenue foes since 2018. That all changed this evening thanks to a stellar effort from the Bears. They jumped ahead early and led for nearly 90% of the game. After leading by as many as 15 in the 2nd half, CGA was able to fend off late Conn comeback attempts to ultimately win by five.

Coast Guard won largely thanks to them outshooting the Camels, 43.2% to 27.4% from the field and 33.3% to 20% from beyond the arc. They also had more assists(17-6), blocks(4-3), and bench points(17-9) than Conn.

Leading the way in scoring for the Bears were upperclassmen Trevor Parks(Oldsmar, FL) and Cameron Brown(Ellicott City, MD). Parks scored 12 points which came from four three pointers made at a 30.8% clip. He also was second on the team with five rebounds and led the squad with three blocks. Brown scored 13 with a 66.7 field goal percentage while also leading CGA with six rebounds. Trailing just behind them in scoring was senior Bryce VanderWiere(Schoolcraft, MI) who was a perfect 4-4 from the field, scoring eight points. Junior Luke Farrell(Ortley, NJ) made his mark on the game with a standout night on offense, securing a career high seven assists while also adding five rebounds and six points.

The 1-1 Bears will next face MCLA on Friday night at Mitchell College at 7:30 PM.
