Bears roll to sixth straight victory

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Coast Guard Academy women's basketball team dominated Colby Sawyer in a non conference matchup. The 72-45 victory is their 6th in a row, all by over 20 points. The victory improves their record to 11-2. The Colby Sawyer Chargers fall to 3-8 and now turn their attention to a big conference battle at Saint Joseph's on Saturday.

The Bears were on fire from start to finish, including a 20-0 run to start the game. After finishing the 1st quarter with a 29-3 lead, CGA was able to cruise to victory. They led in nearly every statistical category including rebounds(53-35), assists(21-9), steals(15-13), and turnovers(19-26).

Leading the way for Coast Guard on both sides of the ball was sophomore guard Dorothy Stotts. Stotts led the Bears in assists(6), 3 pointers made(3), and steals(3), while also contributing 13 points, three rebounds and never surrendering a turnover. Senior guard Kira Wood shone as well, shooting a stellar 63% from the field and leading all scorers with 14. This was each of their 11th games in double figures this season.

Coast Guard was led on the glass by junior Julia Mann who brought down a game high eight rebounds. Down low, the Chargers of Colby Sawyer were unable to contain six footers Glory Blethen and Kelly Hagerty with each shooting over 50% from the field and out rebounding their Colby Sawyer counterparts.

Sophomore guard Taylor Lynch performed off the bench coming down with seven rebounds and scoring five points while freshman Farrah Peterein splashed a three pointer in her only attempt.

The Bears will try to stay hot and keep the winning ways rolling in their final non conference game of the season at Wesleyan University Wednesday January 10 at 7:00pm.
