Bears roll to victory over Emerson, move to 3-0 in conference

In a battle of 2-0 NEWMAC teams, the Coast Guard Academy(14-3, 3-0 NEWMAC) women's basketball team defeated Emerson(11-6, 2-1 NEWMAC) 77-50. Emerson was red hot coming in, riding a seven game winning streak but CGA was too much for the Lions to handle. Emerson will next play Wednesday vs NEWMAC opponent Salve Regina.

The victory moves Coast Guard into a tie with Smith College atop the NEWMAC standings.

The Bears were dominant down low. They out rebounded Emerson 45-22, and out scored them in the paint 34-10. Junior forward Kelly Hagerty led the way with 12 rebounds. She also scored 14 points to secure her 5th double-double of the season.
Sophomore guard Dorothy Stotts led all players in scoring with 21. This is the fourth time this season that she has scored 20 or more points. Stotts shot a stellar 9/13 from the field and 3/5 from beyond the arc. Senior guard and team co-captain Kira Wood scored 12 points.

Coast Guard Academy will look to move to 4-0 in the NEWMAC with a home game vs Babson College this Wednesday at 7:30.
