Men’s Swimming and Diving Drop Close One Against Merchant Marine Academy

Kings Point, NY - The Men's Swimming and Diving team lost a back and forth contest against USMMA in the final score of 161-139. The Bears were able to win 9 of 16 events and still come up short. Several Coast Guard swimmers had big days and nearly propelled the Bears to a come from behind win.

First year Noah Reice was relied upon to win back-to-back to back events at the tail end of the meet. His day resulted in nearly winning the 50 freestyle in a season best 21.25, and then later in the day winning the 100 butterfly (50.30), the 200 IM (1:54.20) and anchoring the winning 400 freestyle relay.

Junior Colin Twiss left his mark as well, winning all four of the events he competed in. His day marked a near lifetime best time in the 100 freestyle (45.57), the 200 free (1:40.23) and 500 free (4:45.83) for individual swims. Twiss' leg on the 400 free relay was a blistering 44.51.

First year John Kaleta kept up the winning ways for the Bears in sweeping the breaststroke events. Kaleta won the 100 yard event in 58.66 and came from behind to win the 200 yard event in 2:09.01, followed closely by classmate Balise Minckler (2:09.35).

Junior Sean Lyman contributed with a win in the 1000 freestyle in 9:46.15, followed by Minckler in 9:51.94.

The Bears will resume competition on Saturday January 20, 2024, against first time opponent Montclair State at 12:00 pm in New London.
