BIDDEFORD, ME - Despite the Bears taking the first lead of the game and going into the second half tied 21-21, they couldn't hang on and would ultimately fall to University of New England 44-28.
Joey Armentrout threw a four-yard pass to
James Patz with 10:50 in the first quarter for the Bears to take the 7-0 lead. The Nor'Easters answered back with two touchdowns in a row to take their first lead of the game 14-7. The first one would be a six-yard pass from quarterback Jarret Henault and then a 10-yard run from Henault.
With 8:41 in the second, Armentrout threw a 20-yard dime to
Broock Desta to tie it 14-14. At 4:33 in the second quarter, Armentrout took it in the end zone himself to take back the lead for CGA. However, before the end of the half, the Nor'Easters would even the score 21-21.
The Nor'Easters would score first to start second half at 11:15 in the third from a Damien Jones 11-yard run. CGA's Van Buhman would rush for two yards to square up the score once again at 7:04 remaining in the third. This would be the last time the Bears would see the end zone. They started the final quarter just trailing by two.
Right at the start of the fourth quarter, the Nor'Easters would march down the field in just five plays which led to a five-yard touchdown run from Holdan Wilson
With under two minutes left on the game clock, the Nor'Easters would put the nail in the coffin and run in one more touchdown for a final score of 44-28.
Armentrout threw two touchdowns and ran one in himself against the Nor'Easters.. He was 22 of 41 for 217 yards and threw two touchdowns and one interception. Coast Guard freshman
Harrison Hensley would lead all players in yards rushing having 22 carries for 155 yards and averaging 6.9 yards per carry.
Henault was 35 for 44 for 329 yards with two touchdowns, one interception, and three sacks.Â
Bears will be back in action next Saturday, Sept. 9th, as they face Anna Maria on their home field.
