NEW LONDON, Conn, - This evening, Bears hosted their first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game of the season, falling to MIT three sets to none.
The Engineers got on the scoreboard first and led the majority of the first set. At 16-10, Bears down six, Coach Mark Thomas called a timeout to encourage the team. Unfortunately, the Bears could not get back into the set and would drop set one, 25-10.
Set two began with the Bears taking a 4-0 lead over the Engineers. MIT would tie it up at 6-6. Bears took another timeout at 16-10 to try and get back into the set. Coast Guard would drop set two 25-10.
MIT would get on the board first in the third set, but CGA would come back and take the lead at 4-3. Set three would be the closest set of them all. Bears took their largest lead in the game thus far at 11-7. However, in the end, MIT would come back and CGA would fall 26-24.
Sophia Galdamez led the Bears with nine kills and Sarah Somer followed with eight. Somer also led her team with four blocks on the night. Maeve Duffin had 23 assists while Kaela France led her team with 17 digs.
Coast Guard Volleyball will be back in action this Saturday at Babson College where they will play Babson at 11 AM and Colby at 1 PM.
