Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Softball competed in the New England Women's and Men's Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament, taking game one against Wheaton, but falling in game two against Springfield.
In game one, the #3 seeded Bears took on the #6 seeded Lyons from Wheaton. Much of the game was a battle of the pitchers. The Bears couldn't get much going until the sixth inning. With Christine Carey on second, Selena Serna launched one to right center field to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
The CGA defense stayed hot into the top of the seventh inning to keep the Lyons off the board.
Coast Guard went on to take the 2-0 win over Wheaton.
Carey and Isabelle Shroyer led the Bears with two hits a piece. Dana Walker only allowed the Lyons to have fours hits while pitching a shutout.
In game two, it was once again a battle of the defenses as neither team could get runners across the plate.
Both teams had three-up three-downs through the first three innings. Coast Guard got its' first hit in the top of fourth inning from a bunt by Carey, but was not able to score.
CGA had a chance to take the lead with a runner on third in the top of the seventh. But the Bears couldn't capitalize and ultimately fell as SC walked it it off in the home half, for a final score of 1-0.
Coast Guard will have another chance on May 5th at 12 PM, taking on the loser of Babson and WPI.
