Bears Beat Wheaton Twice Today

NORTON, Mass. – Today Coast Guard Softball continued New England Women and Men's Conference (NEWMAC) play against Wheaton College (Mass.), taking game one 11-1, and game two Bears took 6-3.

Bears attacked immediately in the top of the first Julia Breidenthal doubled and hit in Natalie Beck.

Then, in the top of the second, Maura Murphy also doubled and hit in two mor runs for CGA.

In the fourth inning, CGA added five more to the board for an 8-0 lead to start the fifth inning.

Bears would run rule the Lyons 11-1 after just five innings of play.

Murphy went three for three today and Beck went three for four at the plate. Breidenthal had here RBIs and Christine Carey, Murphy, and Beck all had two apiece.

Dana Walker threw a fantastic game on the mound, having four strikeouts and only allowing Wheaton three hits.

In game two, once again the Bears found themselves on top early in the game. Isabelle Shroyer singled and hit in two runs in the top of the third for a 3-0 Bears lead. Shroyer would go three for three after this at bat.

In the top of the fifth, Carey got up and hit a three RBI double to extend CGA's lead.

However, in the bottom of the fifth, the Lyons added three back to the scoreboard for a score of 5-3. Breidenthal caught a liner up third base line and was able to catch the runner on first for a double play to get the Bears out of the inning.

Selena Serna got up in the top of sixth to up the Bears lead to 6-3. CGA held Wheaton to a no score in the bottom of the sixth.

Wheaton could not get it done offensively and would ultimately fall to the Bears 6-3.

Serna and Shroyer would both go three for four at the plate it game two.

Shroyer would have three strikeouts on the mound for the Bears.

CGA is currently tied for second place in the NEWMAC and the final seedings and for the tournament will be posted shortly.
