Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. - Softball hosted Babson in a conference matchup, splitting the day by falling in the first and redeeming themselves in the second.
Game one was a battle of the pitchers. Between the two teams, there were only eight hits combined in regular innings. At the end of seven, the game was tied at zero.
Top of the eight, Babson was the first team to score. Heading into the home half, the Bears found themselves down, 1-0. With a runner on second to start the inning, CGA tied it up. With the game tied in the ninth, Coast Guard couldn't stop Babson from scoring and ultimately fell, 2-1.
Isabelle Shroyer had six strikeouts in game one for CGA.
In game two, the Beavers scored first in the top of the first. However, Coast Guard got things going in the bottom of the fifth. Christine Carey tripled to bring in Gracie Hare and after a dead ball call, Carey scored too, giving the Bears their first lead with a score of 2-1.
CGA got more of a cushion on the bottom of the sixth. Mariah Dewey doubled to left field to score Lillia Farlow followed by an error that scored Dewey.
The Bears took the second game with a final of 4-1.
Dana Walker recorded six strikeouts for the Bears in game two. Carey and Farlow had two hits a piece.
CGA now sits at 21-5 overall and 7-3 in conference.
Coast Guard will host Eastern Conn. State in a doubleheader on April 19th, beginning at 3 PM.
