Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. – Today, Bears Softball played a non-conference doubleheader against Mitchell, taking game one 4-0, and game two 6-5.
In the first four and a half innings, neither team could get on the scoreboard.
In the bottom of the fifth, Julia Breidenthal singled to start the Bears rally and hit in two runs. Lilia Farlow got up and doubled, hitting in another Bears run. Bears scored four runs total in the bottom of the fifth.
Selena Serna went two for three at the plate with one RBI.
Isabelle Shroyer threw 61 strikes out of 82 pitches and had two strikeouts.
In game two, Mitchell got on the board first, scoring three runs in the top of the first.
Bears answered back in the bottom of the inning, from a Farlow sac fly to get CGA on the board.
In the bottom of the second, Breidenthal singled, hitting in two runs, to tie it up 3-3.
Mitchell added one in the top of the third to take back the lead.
Neither team scored in the fourth inning, but in the bottom of the fifth, CGA answered back.
Bridget Bartz and Shroyer both doubled and each hit in one run. Bears took the lead for a score of 5-4.
Unfortunately, Mitchell answered back to tie the game once again in the top of the sixth.
In the final inning, CGA's Natalie Becker singled, hitting in a run to clench a 6-5 Bears win.
Dana Walker had three strikeouts on the day in the circle.
Bears Softball is back in action this Friday April 14th, at 3 and 5 PM as they play Clark on the road.
