NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard Men's Basketball went up against Mitchell College tonight and would ultimately beat the Mariners 79-63.
At just 19:15 into the first half, the Bears took and kept the lead after two back-to back Coast Guard three's, the first by
Ben Yagey and the second by
Mitch Shettles.
Bears kept the lead for the remainder of the half and led 46-35 at halftime. Coast Guard was shooting 48.6% after the first 20 minutes and was shooting 50% from beyond the arc. Yagey led the Bears in the first half making 18 of Coast Guard's 46 points.
In the start of the second, the Bears once again made the first basket of the half.
The majority of the second half was much of the same, Bears continuing to dominate. At 7:46 into the second, CGA took a 70-50 lead over Mitchell, which would be their largest of the game.
Mitchell would only be able to come within nine points of Coast Guard's lead in the second half. Ultimately, Coast Guard would take the win 79-63.
Yagey led the team in points with 22 and rebounds with nine.
Elijah Parent followed close behind with 19 points and three assists on the night. As a team, the Bears also went six for six from the free throw line.
Coast Guard Men's Basketball will return from Thanksgiving break on Wednesday, November 29th against Connecticut College.
