NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Men's Swimming and Diving team remained unbeaten for the season after a win over Brandeis University, and now sit at 7-0 for the year. The Bears finished first in every event of the 13 competed in the contest.
Winning twice was All-America Colin Twiss, who won both the 500 freestyle (4:48.20) and the 200 freestyle in 1:42.26, nearly breaking the pool record in the 200 yard event. Joining Twiss as a two-event winner was his classmate, Drew Harris, who won both 1 meter (159.75) and 3 meter (169.87) diving events.
The Bears were paced by an opening win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.73 and the team of first year Cole Carden, first year John Kaleta, sophomore Charles Gaines and senior captain Jake Kim. Junior All-America, Sean Lyman, won the 1000 freestyle in 9:59.85. Kim won the 50 free in 21.92, followed closely by sophomore Victor Parks (22.29). Finishing out the first section of the meet was a win the 200 Individual Medley by Blaise Minckler in a season best 1:58.37.
Gaines returned to win the 100 butterfly in 52.53. First year Noah Reice followed Gaines with a win the 100 freestyle in 48.49. Carden kept the first year movement alive in winning the 100 backstroke in 55.14. Kaleta followed with another top finishing time in the 100 breaststroke in a quick 58.83.
The Bears are heading into Thanksgiving and hoping to defend their title at the CT Cup December 1st-2nd at Wesleyan University.
