Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Coast Guard Women's Soccer Team battled to a 1-1 draw tonight against their second nationally ranked opponent in as many games. Tonight, they faced #22 Trinity College (CT) on the road.
Emily Scharnitzky once again this season, stood on her head, seeing 21 offensive shots this evening. She withstood an early barrage of shots from the Bantams. In the first 15 minutes of gameplay, she had already seen seven shots and save three of the four were on target. After relinquishing a goal early on, she and her defensive front settled in nicely and warded off the Bantams for the remainder of the evening.
Offensively, Coast Guard wasted no time of their own. The Bears pulled ahead first with a Kelly Wade goal, assisted by Chase Merrick, in the ninth minute of the contest. It was Wade's second goal of the season, while Merrick notched her second assist of the year.
While unable to find the back of the net to notch a game winner, Bears Head Coach, Susan Grant, was pleased with her team's performance:
"I am impressed with our team's grit, their ability to battle and compete tough against a nationally ranked NESCAC team in Trinity."
Coast Guard moves to 4-3-1 on the season, while Trinity remains unbeaten at 4-0-4. The Bears will be at home this Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at 1pm EST when they prepare to take on New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) familiar foe, Springfield College.
