Second Half Score Salvages Draw for Men's Soccer

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- In a game in which Coast Guard controlled the majority of tempo, the final score of the Men's Soccer game was not indicative of their fight.

The Bears managed to salvage a draw against Endicott College on Tuesday evening with a second half score from first-year Aiden Miles. The goal is Miles' first of his career and came unassisted.

Overall, Coast Guard outshot Endicott, had a higher percentage of shots on goal, and generally maintained possession and flow of the game play. Endicott goalkeeper, Kyle Rosa, played a strong ninety minutes, which allowed Endicott to stay in a game in which their opportunities were seldom. Rosa managed to stop eight of the nine shots on goal he faced tonight.

After junior Joe Mepham managed to find the back of the goal for the 'Gulls, the first Coast Guard goalie Wolfgang Pfleghar has allowed this year, the Bears attack was on. They rattled off four straight shots in their offensive zone, finally cracking through when Miles scored at the 73 minute mark.

The Coast Guard goal would be the last of the offense for the evening, with the remaining game play only seeing one offensive shot taken.

Head Coach Chris Parsons was impressed with his team's performance and had this to say at the conclusion of the game:

"Tonight was a great response after falling behind for the first time all season. We had many outstanding performances and I was very pleased with the effort, but we certainly could have gotten a W!"

The Bears' record moves to 6-0-2 (1-0-1) on the season, while Endicott moves to 5-3-2. They will look for that 'W' next up in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) road test, when Coast Guard travels to MIT for a Saturday evening match-up at 5pm EST on October 1st, 2022.
