Bears Stay Hot, Down Clark

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Coast Guard Academy Men's Soccer kept their hot hand alive this weekend, tallying three more goals on their way to another win on Saturday afternoon, this time over conference opponent, Clark University.

With the win, Coast Guard improves to 1-0-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and 6-0-1 on the season. Clark drops to 2-7-0 (0-2-0 in NEWMAC play).

Behind another strong defensive performance from the Bears, Coast Guard goalkeeper, John Vaaler, went unscored upon. That was in large part thanks to the Bears' defenders keeping the Clark attacks at bay. Led by a break out day for sophomore Jude Sargent, the defense allowed only two shots to be taken on goal all afternoon. Co-Captain, and senior, George Ackling was also instrumental in organizing the defensive front.

Sargent's day was emphasized by two goals. The first came unassisted at the mid-point of the first half in the 25th minute of play. The latter came just over twenty minutes into the second half on a feed from Co-Captain, John Flood

Between Sargent's two celebrations, seniors John DiTommaso and Casey Savage connected once again this week for points as DiTommaso scored his fourth goal of the week and Savage tallied the assist.

Head Coach Chris Parsons continues to be impressed by his squad's well-rounded approach to the game. He had this to say:

"Today was a great team effort led by our backline who earned their sixth shutout of the season! Jude Sergeant not only defended incredibly well, but also tallied two goals, and John DiTommaso scored again! Overall a solid performance!"

In total, Coast Guard notched ten goals in two games over the span of four days. They are 2-0 in that time frame and will look to maintain this momentum as they prepare to host Endicott College on Tuesday evening, September 26th, 2022 at 6pm EST.
