Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass. – Tristan Keller homered to tie the game in the seventh and hit the go-ahead RBI double in the ninth as sixth-seeded Wheaton eliminated fifth-seeded Coast Guard with a 3-2 win in nine innings in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament.
For second straight day Christine Carey came up with a huge hit late in the game, this time an RBI double down the left field line in the sixth scoring Kayla Yoshioka Montalvo, who walked. Isabelle Shroyer followed with an infield single to score Carey giving the Bears a 2-0 lead.
Keller tied the game with a towering two-run homer with one out in the top of the seventh after the runner on had reached on an error.
Coast Guard had a chance to win in in the bottom of the seventh, but Julia Breidenthal, who singled, was thrown out at home following a single by Yoshioka Montalvo to send the game to extra innings.
Emma Candelaria (12-5) went the distance and allowed seven hits and two earned runs to get the win while Amanda Moore (13-6) also allowed seven hits and two earned runs and did not walk a batter while striking out three to take the tough luck loss.
Coast Guard, which swept a doubleheader from Wheaton in the regular season, finishes 19-16.
