Box Score 2 MIDDLETOWN, Conn.-- Coast Guard softball split its non-conference doubleheader at Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon. Wesleyan came from behind to take the first game, 7-6, and the Bears won the second 11-2. Coast Guard is now 5-5 on the season and Wesleyan is now 7-7.
The Bears are back in action on the road at WPI on Friday, April 8 for a doubleheader starting at 3 PM.
GAME ONE- COAST GUARD 6 WESLEYAN 7
Selena Serna and Mariah Dewey each had two RBI. Christine Carey and Lillia Farlow added one each for Coast Guard. Wesleyan rallied in the bottom of the seventh to take game one, 7-6.
Coast Guard got on the board first in the top of the first inning as Farlow had an RBI single. In the bottom of the first, Wesleyan tied it up 1-1.
The Bears extended the lead 3-1 as Carey and Dewey had back-to-back RBI singles. Serna hit a triple to bring in two runs in the top of the fourth and Dewey had a sacrifice fly to bring in the Bears sixth run of the game for a 6-1 lead.
The Cardinals scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the 7-6 final.
Isabelle Shroyer and Amanda Moore split the pitching duties for the Bears in game one.
GAME TWO- COAST GUARD 11 WESLEYAN 2
Coast Guard beat Wesleyan in the second game, 11-2. Kayla Yoshioka Montalvo led the Bears with three RBI. Carey and Julia Breidenthal were both 3 for 3 with a triple, three runs scored, and drove in two runs each. Serna had two RBI, and Dewey, and Natalie Beck both drove in a run each.
Yoshioka Montalvo got the Bears on the board first with an RBI single in the top of the second. Dewey followed up with an RBI single, giving the Bears a 2-0 lead. With bases loaded, Beck walked, sending Yoshioka Montalvo home to give the Bears a 3-0 advantage in the top of the second.
In the top of the third, Yoshioka Montalvo was walked with bases loaded, sending Shroyer in for a 4-0 lead. Later on, Serna had a two-run single to extend the Bears lead to 6-0.
The Cardinals scored twice in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 6-2.
The Bears scored three more runs in the top of the fourth as Carey drove in two runs off a triple to right field. Yoshioka Montalvo had a sacrifice fly to bring in one more run for the Bears for a 9-2 lead.
Coast Guard added two more runs in the top of the fifth as Breidenthal had a two-run double, giving the Bears the 11-2 final.
Moore got the win for the Bears and improved to 3-2 on the season.
