Box Score 2 CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT threw a pair of shutouts to sweep Coast Guard 8-0 in both games of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader, the final games of the regular season.
MIT improves to 25-15 overall and 13-5 in NEWMAC play while the Bears close out the regular season 18-14 overall and 11-7 in conference play.
The Bears will open play in the NEWMAC tournament on Wednesday at 2:30 against Springfield at top-seeded Babson. The winner of the Coast Guard vs. Springfield game will take on Babson right after that game while the loser will play again in the double elimination tournament on Friday.
GAME ONE – MIT 8, COAST GUARD 0 (6 INNINGS)
Anya Chase fired a two-hit shutout and her three-run homer highlighted a five-run second leading MIT to the 8-0 win in the opener.
Chase (12-7) walked one two and struck out nine to get the win for MIT.
MIT scored one in the first before the five-run outburst in the second.
Christine Carey and Isabelle Shroyer each singled for the Bears.
Amanda Moore (12-5) went the distance and took the loss.
GAME TWO – MIT 8, COAST GUARD 0 (5 INNINGS)
Becca O'Connor threw a one-hitter and struck out four and Mackenzie Bivin had two hits and drove in four runs leading MIT to the 8-0 win in the nightcap.
Natalie Beck had the only hit for Coast Guard, an infield single in the second inning.
Isabelle Shroyer (6-9) went the distance and took the loss for the Bears.
