Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Amanda Moore went the distance and got out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh as Coast Guard held on for a 3-2 win the nightcap to hand Springfield its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) loss of the season. The Pride won the opener 1-0.
Coast Guard is now 14-10 overall and 7-5 in the NEWMAC while Springfield is 26-6 overall and 11-1 in conference play.
Springfield had runners on second and third with nobody out in the home half of the seventh of the second game but Moore got out of the jam to give Coast Guard the win.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday at Wellesley in a NEWMAC doubleheader at noon.
GAME ONE –SPRINGFIELD 1, COAST GUARD 0
Gillian Kane (14-2) fired a two-hit shutout did not walk a batter and struck out three to get the win.
Springfield scored the only run of the game on an RBI double by Sam Witmer in the third.
Christine Carey and Julia Breidenthal each had a hit for Coast Guard.
Isabelle Shroyer (6-6) went the distance and allowed seven hits and the one earned run while walking two and striking out four to take the tough luck loss.
GAME TWO – COAST GUARD 3, SPRINGFIELD 2
Moore (9-3) scattered seven hits and allowed one earned run while walking two and striking out three to get the complete game win.
Coast Guard took a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run single by Kayla Yoshioka Montalvo.
The Pride got one in the second on an RBI single by Brennah McCann and tied the game on an RBI infield single by Mackenzie Doyle in the fourth before the Pride left the bases loaded.
The Bears regained the lead 3-2 in the sixth with an unearned run scoring Shroyer, who had doubled with two outs.
In the seventh, Springfield had runners on second and third with no outs. Shortstop Mariah Dewey threw out the tying run on at home on fielder's choice for the first out. Moore got a strikeout and then a ground ball to first to end the game.
Yoshioka Montalvo had two of the Bears four hits in the win.
