Bears Sweep Emerson

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Amanda Moore allowed just one earned run and five hits in the opener as Coast Guard won 3-2 and the Bears scored six runs in the fourth of game two to earn the sweep of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader with a 13-1 five inning win over Emerson in the nightcap. 

Lillia Farlow had a solid day at the plate going 3 for 5 with four RBI's with three of them coming in game two while Jackie Carter added another three RBI's in the second game. 

Coast Guard is now 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the NEWMAC while Emerson is 12-10 and 0-6 in conference play. 

The Bears are back in action on April 12th where they travel to Mitchell College for a doubleheader at 3:00. 

GAME ONE- COAST GUARD 3, EMERSON 2 

Amanda Moore (5-2) fired a five-hitter with no walks and six strikeouts for her fifth win of the season. 

Christine Carey got the scoring started for the Coast Guard in the first inning when she doubled to center field driving in Mariah Dewey. Farlow also doubled to center field driving in Carey to make it 2-0 after one inning of play. 

Julia Breidenthal added a solo home run in the second to make it 3-0 in favor of the Bears. 

Emerson almost completed the comeback in the seventh when they scored two runs courtesy of a single by Claire Overton and an error later on in the inning.

Breidenthal had a pair of hits in the win for Coast Guard.

Makenzie Killough had two for the Lions five hits in the loss. 

GAME TWO- COAST GUARD 13, EMERSON 1 (5 INNINGS) 

Isabelle Shroyer (3-4) pitched all five innings allowing just four hits and striking out eight and not walking a batter to get the win.

Dewey was 3 for 3 with a double and three runs scored for the Bears while Shoyer, Farlow and Katie Becker each had two hits in the game two win. Jackie Carter and Farlow each drove in three runs for Coast Guard.  

Kayla Yoshioka Montalvo got the scoring started with an RBI single to right field driving in Dewey before a sacrifice fly by Farlow and RBI's by Breidenthal and Becker gave the Bears a 4-0 first inning lead. 

Farlow's RBI single in the second inning extending the bears lead to 5-0 and Shoyer's RBI double later in the inning made it 7-0. 

Katie Becker recorded her second RBI of the game when she hit a single to right field extending the Coast Guard's lead to 8-1. Carter's three-run double pushed the lead to 11-1 as the Bears scored six in the fourth taking a 13-1 lead.  

Emerson's only run of the game came courtesy of Sam Zannotti when she doubled driving in Makenzie Killough in the fourth inning.
