Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Senior Noelle Tursky led the Bears with a career-high 21 kills in their 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-22, 27-25) win over non-conference cross-town foe Connecticut College on Thursday evening. With the win, the Bears improve to 17-6, while the Camels fall to 7-11.

Adding to Tursky's 21 kills were Shannon Shaw and Sarah Somer with 10 each. Elizabeth Atkinson and Sav Pearson had six and four, respectively. Maeve Duffin had 25 assists, followed by Tursky with 13 and Kaela France with nine. Duffin also added 15 digs to lead the Bears, followed by 11 by France, six by Tursky, four by Somer, and three by Vickie Mancine. The Bears had twelve aces, with Carmen Zipf and France with four apiece.

After dropping set one 25-21, Coast Guard came out strong in set two. Zipf had an ace and Somer a kill to give the Bears the 5-1 lead. Kills by Somer, Tursky, and Atkinson put the Bears up 8-2, and then a block by Pearson and Mack Boose gave the Bears momentum and a 17-10 lead. Back-to-back kills by Tursky spread the lead to ten at 22-12. On Mancine's serve, the Bears won set two, 25-15.

Set three started out all Camels, as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead. However, the Bears came right back on France's serve. An ace by France, two kills by Tursky, and a kill each by Somer and Duffin put the Bears up 10-7. After a 16-16 tie, a Pearson kill put the Bears ahead and they never looked back, taking set three 25-22, finalized on a kill by Shaw from Tursky.

Set four was quite the set, with neither team holding more than a five-point lead at any point. The Bears led by five at 9-4 on an Atkinson ace. With ties at 16-16, 17-17, and 18-18, each point was well-earned through many long rallies. The Camels saw their biggest lead at 21-18 as they capitalized on a few Coast Guard errors. A Tursky kill followed by a France ace put the Bears up one at 24-23. Back-and-forth ensued until Somer had a kill and an ace to end the set and match, 27-25.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday, October 25 at 7 PM, as they head to WPI to take on the Engineers in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition.
